Circular No 007/2021
Dated 12 Jan 2021
To Members of the Malaysian Bar and pupils in chambers
Update: Law Firm Operations During the Movement Control Order
We refer to Circular No 005/2021 entitled “Law Firm Operations During the Movement Control Order” and the media statement issued by YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Minister of International Trade and Industry (“MITI”) earlier today.
We draw Members’ attention to the “Lampiran 1, Category C, item 27” where it is mentioned that the lawyers and law firms are allowed to operate during the MCO with adherence to Standard Operating Procedure (“SOP”) and operating guidelines for the legal sector from the relevant authorities.
The Bar Council is in communication with the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (Bahagian Hal Ehwal Undang-Undang Jabatan Perdana Menteri, “BHEUU”) for the SOP and operating guidelines for the legal sector. In the meantime, we advise Members to adopt measures to avoid any possible risk on the safety and health of Members.
Please click here (see page 2 onwards) to view the Media Statement.
With regards to court operations, we are in communication with the Chief Registrar’s Office, and they are in the midst of ironing out issues pertaining to court operations and will revert to us once it has been finalised. We will keep the Members informed the moment we receive any feedback.
We hope that the information provided here is of assistance to Members.
Thank you.
A G KALIDAS
