Amendment to Ruling 2.01(4) of the Rules and Rulings of the Bar Council
Pursuant to section 57(a) of the Legal Profession Act 1976, the Bar Council has amended Ruling 2.01(4) of the Rules and Rulings of the Bar Council, as proposed by its Legal Profession Committee.
The amendments to Ruling 2.01(4) are as marked below, followed by the amended version of the Ruling:
Bar Council Ruling 2.01: Firm name

(4) Subject to section 85(1) of the Act, A a firm name can may include the surname any part of the name of any Advocate and Solicitor who is a partner or the sole proprietor, as the case may be, of such firm.
The revised Ruling 2.01(4) therefore reads as follows:
(4) Subject to section 85(1) of the Act, a firm name may include any part of the name of any Advocate and Solicitor who is a partner or the sole proprietor, as the case may be, of such firm.
Please be informed that the amended Ruling takes effect immediately.
