Amendments to Rulings 3.08, 4.03, 7.06 and 14.02
of the Rules and Rulings of the Bar Council
Pursuant to section 57(a) of the Legal Profession Act 1976, the Bar Council has amended Rulings 3.08, 4.03, 7.06(2)(d) and 14.02(3) of the Rules and Rulings of the Bar Council, as proposed by its Legal Profession Committee.
The amendments to each Ruling are as marked below, followed by the amended version of each Ruling:
(1) Bar Council Ruling 3.08: Telephone number, and facsimile numbers and/or email address
The telephone and number of a law firm, as well as its facsimile numbers of a law firm and/or email address, must be stated in the firm’s letterhead.
The revised Ruling 3.08 therefore reads as follows:
Bar Council Ruling 3.08: Telephone number, and facsimile number and/or email address
The telephone number of a law firm, as well as its facsimile number and/or email address, must be stated in the firm’s letterhead
(2) Bar Council Ruling 4.03: Telephone number, and facsimile numbers and/or email address
The telephone and number of a law firm, as well as its facsimile numbers of a law firm and/or email address, must be stated in the name card of an Advocate and Solicitor of that firm.
The revised Ruling 4.03 therefore reads as follows:
Bar Council Ruling 4.03: Telephone number, and facsimile number and/or email address
The telephone number of a law firm, as well as its facsimile number and/or email address, must be stated in the name card of an Advocate and Solicitor of that firm.
(3) Bar Council 7.06. Setting up of a new firm

(2) The said notice shall contain the following particulars:

(d) Proposed telephone, number of the new firm, as well as its fax facsimile numbers and/or e-mail address of the new firm.
The revised Ruling 7.06(2)(d) therefore reads as follows:
(d) Proposed telephone number of the new firm, as well as its facsimile number and/or e-mail address.
(4) Bar Council 14.02. Signing of letters

(3) All correspondence from an Advocate and Solicitor or his/her office shall bear the complete postal address of the principal office for service, as well as and the telephone and number as well as facsimile numbers of the principal office and/or email address; and if such correspondence is from a branch office, the complete postal address as well as the telephone and facsimile numbers of that branch office, and the telephone number as well as facsimile number and/or email address.
The revised Ruling 14.02(3) therefore reads as follows:
(3) All correspondence from an Advocate and Solicitor or his/her office shall bear the complete postal address of the principal office for service, and the telephone number as well as facsimile number and/or email address; and if such correspondence is from a branch office, the complete postal address of that branch office, and the telephone number as well as facsimile number and/or email address.
Please be informed that the amended Rulings take effect immediately.
