Update on Notification of Opening of High Court of Sungai Petani, Kedah
and Transfer of Cases

We refer to Circular No 206/2020 entitled “Notification of Opening of High Court of Sungai Petani, Kedah and Transfer of Cases” dated 2 July 2020 and Circular No 213/2020 entitled “Notification of Opening of New High Courts” dated 6 July 2020.  Both circulars mention the opening of the High Court of Sungai Petani in Kedah.

Please be informed that there has been a change of effective dates, with regard to the filing of cases in the High Court of Sungai Petani, Kedah.  The details are as follows:

(1) The High Court of Sungai Petani will hear criminal cases (including criminal appeal and application) starting from 10 July 2020;

(2) The High Court of Sungai Petani will hear civil cases (“NCVC”) (not including civil cases in Special Courts such as Family Court, Construction Court and any other cases) beginning from 1 Aug 2020;

(3) The filing of Court documents via e-filing at the High Court of Sungai Petani begins from the given effective date.  Any documents filed before the effective date will be cancelled without refund of filing fees; and

(4) All new cases filed before the effective date must be made at the High Court of Alor Setar, Kedah.
