Circular No 432/2020
Dated 7 Dec 2020

To Members of the Malaysian Bar

Time Limit for Oral Submissions for Application for Leave
to Appeal to the Federal Court

The Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia, Tuan Ahmad Terrirudin bin Mohd Salleh, has issued a directive entitled “Penetapan Had Masa Berhujah 20 Minit Bagi Permohonan Kebenaran Merayu Ke Mahkamah Persekutuan Di Bawah Seksyen 96(A) Akta Mahkamah Kehakiman 1964” dated 2 Dec 2020.

The Judiciary has agreed that parties are allowed 20 minutes for oral submissions in respect of applications for leave to appeal to the Federal Court, thus reversing the Judiciary’s previous stance to disallow oral submissions for such leave applications.

Therefore, please be informed that starting from 4 Jan 2021, there will be a 20-minute time limit for oral submissions for applications for leave to appeal to the Federal Court.

Please click here (see page 2 onwards) to view the guidelines for oral submissions for applications for leave to appeal to the Federal Court.

We hope that the information provided here is of assistance to Members.  We will update Members as and when there are new developments.

Thank you.
