Service of Pupillage Documents

Under section 16(1) of the Legal Profession Act 1976 (“LPA”), a petitioner who is applying to the High Court (“Court”) for admission and enrolment as an advocate and solicitor is required to serve on, among others, the Bar Council a copy of the petition to Court, verified by an affidavit together with exhibits of documents (Forms 1 to 8) as enumerated in section 15 of the LPA (“pupillage documents”).

Please take note that, effective immediately, the Bar Council will accept service of pupillage documents by email.  Pupillage documents can be emailed to

The Bar Council will then acknowledge receipt of the pupillage documents by email to the petitioner.  A copy of the Bar Council’s email acknowledging receipt can then be exhibited by the petitioner in an affidavit of service for filing in Court.

The Chief Judge of Malaya has agreed to Bar Council’s request regarding the new mode of service as described above.

Pupils who wish to serve pupillage documents by mail, courier service or hand delivery may continue to do so.
