Compilation of Cases Relating to Cyber Laws

The Bar Council Cyber Laws Committee has compiled a list of cases relating to cyber laws, which is available here on the Malaysian Bar website. 

The list is intended to assist practitioners and members of the public in understanding cyber laws and information technology laws, and to contribute to the development of such laws.

Citations for approximately 50 cases are included in the list, grouped as follows:

(1) Defamation and other actions: This includes cases relating to email, Facebook, Twitter, online forums, blogs and hyperlinks.

(2) Criminal law-related cases: Cases relating to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Computer Crimes Act 1997, and other crimes, fall into this category.

(3) Electronic Evidence: The topics in this category include the Electronic Commerce Act 2006, section 114A of the Evidence Act 1950, Wikipedia, Google maps, pre-action discovery, and domain names.

(4) FinTech: This includes cases relating to e-hailing services, e-commerce, and viral content.
