Circular No 134/2022
Dated 25 May 2022
To Members of the Malaysian Bar
Online Complaints Log
In an effort to assess and channel complaints regarding the administration of the criminal justice system in the country and how to improve on it, the Bar Council Criminal Law Committee (“CrimLaw”) has created an online complaints log, which is available here.
Members are encouraged to upload any documents or evidence (if available) when submitting their complaints into the log to assist the Bar Council Secretariat in identifying and addressing the issues with the relevant authorities. Kindly be informed that the complaints will be kept confidential.
CrimLaw will look into the issues that involve Members, courts, detention centres, enforcement agencies, and all other relevant external stakeholders in the criminal justice system.
A coordinating group comprising criminal law committee chairpersons from the State Bar Committees will be established to try and resolve the issues raised, and to liaise with relevant authorities where necessary.
This term, CrimLaw hopes to engage with the Judiciary, the Attorney General’s Chambers, and other institutions involved in the criminal justice system on matters pertaining to, among others, the legislation, rulings, and practice directions to advance the course of justice. Members are encouraged to reach out to CrimLaw should there be any feedback and/or proposals for its consideration.
For the avoidance of doubt, the online complaints log is exclusively for issues pertaining to the criminal justice system.
