Circular No 123/2022
Dated 18 May 2022
To Members of the Malaysian Bar
Decorum When Attending Trial or Hearing through an Online Platform
The Judiciary has recently informed the Bar Council that there are Members of the Bar (“Members) who have failed to observe proper decorum when attending to court matters, specifically by way of online platforms.
These Members were reportedly eating while attending to their respective matters, while some were reported to be outdoors or while being inside their vehicles. Matters fixed to be heard via video platforms are generally fixed at specific times and Members are reminded to treat such matters with the same solemnity as they would matters being heard in a courtroom.
While the new normal allows for court matters to be attended remotely, the Bar Council would like to remind Members to always observe decorum and etiquette as professionals, regardless of the modes used to perform court matters.
We thank you for your cooperation.
Thank you.
